Terms of Service
Effective date: August 23, 2026
1. About FixMyStuff.ca
FixMyStuff.ca ("FixMyStuff", "we", "us") is a website operated by Michael Doyle, located in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada.
FixMyStuff.ca is an information and search service. We help you find listings for independent businesses and tradespeople who offer home repair and maintenance services in Canada. That is all we do.
By using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. What we are not
This is the most important section of these Terms. Please read it carefully.
We do not perform any repair, maintenance, cleaning, or construction work. We have no tradespeople, technicians, or contractors on staff.
The businesses listed on this site are independent third parties. They are not our employees, agents, partners, subcontractors, or representatives. We have no ownership, control, or supervisory relationship with any of them.
We do not vet, screen, verify, certify, licence, bond, insure, background-check, or endorse any business listed on this site. We do not confirm that any listed business holds a valid licence, carries insurance, is in good standing, or is qualified to do the work you need.
We are not a party to any agreement you make with a listed business. Any quote, contract, payment, schedule, warranty, or dispute is strictly between you and that business.
We do not set prices, handle payments, or hold funds. We never ask for or process payment for any repair work.
3. Where our listings come from
Business listings on this site — including names, addresses, phone numbers, ratings, review counts, and photos — are retrieved from third-party sources, primarily the Google Maps Platform, and are displayed as we receive them.
This means:
- We do not create, edit, verify, or fact-check this information.
- Listings may be out of date, incomplete, or inaccurate. A business may have closed, moved, changed hands, changed its phone number, or stopped offering a service.
- Ratings and reviews are not ours and do not reflect our opinion. We did not collect them and we cannot verify them.
- A business appearing on this site has not asked to be listed, agreed to anything, or partnered with us in any way, unless it has separately purchased a featured placement (see Section 4).
Your use of Google Maps data through this site is also subject to the Google Maps/Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy, both of which are incorporated into these Terms by reference.
4. Featured and sponsored listings
Some listings are marked "Featured" or "Sponsored." These are paid placements. A business has paid us a fee to appear more prominently in search results.
To be clear about what that does and does not mean:
- Payment affects position and prominence only.
- A featured placement is not a recommendation, endorsement, certification, or statement of quality by us.
- We do not verify featured businesses any more than we verify any other listing.
- Featured placements are always visibly labelled. If you ever see a paid placement that is not clearly marked, please tell us at info@fixmystuff.ca.
5. Your responsibilities before hiring anyone
Because we do not vet anyone, you are responsible for doing your own due diligence before hiring a business you found through this site. At minimum, we strongly recommend that you:
- Confirm the business holds any trade licence, certification, or permit required in your province or municipality — particularly for electrical, gas, plumbing, and roofing work.
- Ask for proof of current liability insurance and, where applicable, workers' compensation coverage (for example, WorkSafeBC in British Columbia).
- Get a written quote before work begins.
- Get more than one quote.
- Never pay the full amount up front.
- Check reviews and references independently, not only through this site.
- If work requires a permit, confirm who is responsible for obtaining it.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law:
FixMyStuff.ca is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We are not liable for any loss, damage, injury, cost, or expense of any kind arising from or connected to:
- the acts, omissions, negligence, delays, workmanship, conduct, or misconduct of any business listed on this site;
- any agreement, transaction, dispute, or payment between you and a listed business;
- any property damage, personal injury, or financial loss resulting from work performed by a listed business;
- inaccurate, outdated, incomplete, or missing listing information;
- your reliance on any information on this site;
- any interruption, error, or unavailability of the site.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable Canadian law, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence.
Where liability cannot be fully excluded, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid us, if any, in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) CAD $100.
7. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FixMyStuff.ca and its owner from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of this site, your dealings with any listed business, or your breach of these Terms.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- scrape, harvest, copy, or systematically extract listing data from this site;
- use the site to send unsolicited commercial messages to listed businesses;
- attempt to interfere with, overload, or gain unauthorized access to the site;
- misrepresent yourself or submit false information;
- use the site for any unlawful purpose.
9. Removing or correcting a listing
If you own or represent a business listed on this site and you want your listing corrected or removed, email info@fixmystuff.ca with the business name and location. We will action reasonable requests within 10 business days at no charge.
Please note: because most listing data comes from Google Maps, correcting the underlying information at its source (through Google Business Profile) will usually be more effective and will update everywhere that data appears, not just here.
10. Intellectual property
The FixMyStuff.ca name, logo, site design, and original site content are owned by us. Third-party business names, logos, marks, photos, and reviews remain the property of their respective owners and are displayed for identification and informational purposes only. Their appearance here does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those owners.
11. Changes to the site and these Terms
We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site at any time. We may update these Terms from time to time; the effective date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein. You agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of British Columbia.
Nothing here affects your rights under applicable provincial consumer protection legislation.
